By the end of their compulsory education, the pupils at Hollingworth Business & Enterprise College should be literate and numerate and have developed a capacity for life-long learning, leading to successful and satisfying work in a knowledge society and global economy.

  • to develop pupils' awareness of themselves and sensitivity to others and their environment.
  • to promote consideration of the needs of others regardless of gender, ethnic origin, social background, religion or individual ability.
  • to encourage respect for the individual within an ethos where each person feels they are contributing something of value and are being valued as people as well as learners.
  • to develop pupils' confidence in themselves and to acquire the ability to meet challenges and to sustain an enthusiastic response.
  • to develop pupils' responsibility for their actions, so that they feel accountable for their work and behaviour.
  • to develop lively, enquiring minds in the pupils, the ability to question and discuss rationally, to apply themselves to tasks, and to develop physical skills.
  • to enable pupils to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment and to be flexible and adaptable in their work in order to meet the needs of a rapidly changing society.
  • to achieve the highest possible standards of work in preparation for examinations.

Education is a life-long process of development to which Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College will make an essential contribution through its curriculum, that is all the formal and informal teaching and learning within the college. This curriculum will meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and its assessment arrangements. It will build on the best of the college’s existing traditions by providing a focus on individual worth and need, giving maximum access to all pupils. There will be an emphasis on continuity of learning.

The curriculum will be concerned with the whole person and offer equality of opportunity. Parents, carers and the community will be actively encouraged to form a partnership with the college so that between us we provide the best for those in our care.
