Holywell C of E Primary School

Holywell is a thriving village school with a supportive Governing Body and an active PTFA.

At Holywell there is a happy family atmosphere which is conducive to learning. We pride ourselves on high standards of work and behaviour, good manners and consideration for all in our school community.

AIMS

The aims of Holywell Church of England Primary School are:

  • to serve the community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice,
  • to encourage an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith,
  • to promote Christian values through the experiences it offers to all its pupils.
  • to provide a stimulating and supportive environment so that learning is valued and pupils are encouraged to reach their full personal and academic potential,
  • to create a sense of self worth in pupils and an awareness of the needs and aspirations of others and to have proper regard for the future demands of Society,
  • to develop parental awareness of, and commitment to, the above and to foster co-operative links between school, home and Society.
  • CURRICULUM

Work is undertaken in English, Maths, Science, Geography, History, Technology, IT, Music, Art and Craft, PE and RE. Health education is dealt with incidentally as well as arising in some study topics. All these activities are designed not only to broaden the experience of the pupils and make them aware of the world around them, but also to provide further opportunities to develop skills of language and number in a variety of ways.

A variety of PE activities are offered by the school. Children receive approximately one hour of PE a week. The village hall is used weekly by all children throughout the year. We keep a selection of large PE equipment stored there. The children also have one outdoor PE lesson a week, in the sports field or the playground, depending on the weather. During the spring term children in Years 4 and 5 receive a weekly swimming lesson at the Barnstaple Leisure Centre. The children occasionally visit the North Devon College to make use of the excellent facilities there.
