We are a small rural primary school in North Devon, situated about 3 miles from Barnstaple, and 6 miles from Great Torrington. We are in the village of Lovacott, between the two other villages of Newton Tracey and Horwood.

We have a nursery which also provides child care in the afternoons, and 3 classes-

Class 1 for Reception, Yr 1 and Yr 2 children. This is taught by Ms Munro and has between 20 and 30 children .

Class 2 is a Yr 3 and 4 class and is taught by Miss Aldridge, with 22-28 children.

Class 3 is a Yr 5 and 6 class and is taught by Mr. Dickerson for 3 days each week, and Mrs Raistrick for 2 days of each week. It normally has between 22 and 28 children.

We have 5 classroom assistants who work very skilfully with teachers to support the education of all children in the school.

  • Everyone takes part in what we do.
  • We enjoy ourselves, trust and rely on each other to improve.
  • We are friendly, polite and welcoming,
  • We have challenging work and give it a go.
  • We believein ourselves and encourage and support each other to achieve well in all school activities.

The Curriculum is planned into a 2 year rolling programme. We are constantly aiming to improve our curriculum to keep it broad , challenging and interesting to the children. Recently we have developed new planning for history, geography and design technology, as well as using video, sound and images as a stimulus for literacy. We teach French from entry to Nursery and are introducing Spanish also.
