WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL

Hove Park School provides high quality education for all young people in the age range 11-18 years. Hove Park School is a supportive, caring and exciting place to learn. We have excellent facilities and a talented, committed and well-qualified staff team. We are proud to be part of the Leading Edge Partnership programme. We are one of a small number of schools to have been recognised nationally by the DFES as an example of excellence, innovation and achievement.

SIXTH FORM

WELCOME TO YOUR FUTURE

Welcome to Hove Park's Sixth Form

ImageThe benefits of continuing education beyond the age of 16 are well established; good qualifications give you a much wider choice in deciding upon a future career. The Sixth Form at Hove Park is here to serve the needs and aspirations of its students. It provides a highly effective learning environment where students can expect the highest standards in teaching and learning opportunities. Hove Park Sixth Form provides specialist tutorial and teaching areas, computers, and a spacious social area. The Sixth Form Block is a separate part of our school and provides outstanding facilities for Sixth Form students.

All Sixth Form students have a Personal Tutor who supports their academic and personal progress and advises on careers and university applications. Students meet their Tutor regularly for individual and group meetings. Each term there is an opportunity for students and tutors to review progress and set targets for improvement. The Year Team Leader and Director of Sixth Form offer additional advice and support to students. The relationship between student and tutor is central to student success. The aim is to encourage students to be successful independent learners who are prepared to progress to Higher Education or Employment.

ImageStudents elect a Student President and Sixth Form Council who take a lead in organising social and charity activities. The highlight of the year is the Sixth Form Ball held at the Grand Hotel in May. Activities also include various trips including Alton Towers and the Leavers' BBQ. Students can participate in a range of sporting activities, a favourite being the annual ski trip, and have access to a well-equipped fitness suit. The Sixth form Common Room has a pool table, table football, TV, stereo, cafe and various educational resources. Students also have complete access to the study room which is well equipped with computers and higher education resources. Sixth form students are encouraged to participate in whole school activities such as Drama performances. Many Sixth Form students also elect to work with younger students in their lessons.

Student Support

LANGUAGE COLLEGE

Languages for everyone

Hove Park is the only school in Brighton and Hove to have been awarded specialist status as a Language Specialist College . This means that we are one of over 200 schools in the UK to receive substantial extra funds from the government to develop our expertise in teaching a wide range of languages and to promote international cultural understanding. We are affiliated to the Specialist Schools Trust and are committed to the Trust's aims of raising achievement and promoting the international dimension to teaching and learning across the whole curriculum and community.

We have a strong team of well qualified staff (including several native speakers), expert in teaching two or more European languages each supported by Foreign Language Assistants, as well as specialists in our local community languages.

PRIMARY LANGUAGES

We hope our website will inform and support you in learning & teaching languages. Please feel free to view & download our resource materials & schemes of work. There are also links to great websites for you to try, including the Brighton & Hove Seaside site for teachers.

Any questions, comments, problems or great ideas for future inclusion? Please let us know, see the Contacts page for details.

In September 2002 Hove Park School became a specialist Language College . We began working with colleagues in our local primary schools to promote and support early foreign language learning for young children in KS1 & KS2.

In 2003 we began working in partnership with Brighton & Hove LEA on the Pathfinder Primary Languages Project. In 2004 we became a designated DfES trial site for the draft KS2 Framework for languages.

In 2005 Hove Park School became the official hub of languages for Brighton & Hove. We have been working collaboratively with the LA specialist adviser and primary & secondary colleagues across the city, the region & nationally to create, support & train teachers in best practice in early language learning.

Our enormously popular Parachutes & PE activities are ready for downloading. Find them by clicking on the links below or by navigating to our Teachers' Resources section.

Have fun trying them out!
