Hull Collegiate School has been established as the result of a merger between two of Hull’s top independent schools, Hull High School and Hull Grammar School. Situated four miles to the west of Hull and one mile north east of the Humber Bridge, the school is based at Tranby Croft, a beautiful country house which benefits from five hectares of mature landscaped grounds.

The Preparatory School is housed in a purpose-built facility on the same site and was opened in 2004. The Senior Schools joined forces in September 2005, completing the multi-million pound investment by parent company United Church Schools Trust. This has provided state-of-the-art facilities and transformed the school into a first class learning environment for the twenty first century.

Developing a lifelong love of learning, through inspirational teaching, is central to our aims. Nevertheless we also understand the importance of providing good facilities which excite pupils, encourage them to participate and give them an opportunity to discover their talents.

Following a multi-million pound programme of investment the school now offers many state-of-the-art facilities including:

• New science laboratories, classrooms and workshops
• Astro-turf and additional playing fields
• A relaxed café style refectory
• Open plan art school
• Sports hall built to Sport England standard

Additional purpose built Drama and Music facilities feature in a second phase of development.

Learning is also enhanced by access to interactive whiteboards in classrooms, which harness the excitement of multi-media presentations.

All pupils are required to sit an entrance assessment examination before joining the school. An acceptable standard must be achieved in each test for a place to be offered (subject to availability). We consider applications regardless of colour, creed, race or disability and we are always happy to discuss admission mid-way through the academic year.

If an applicant falls slightly short of the above criteria, a place may still be offered at the discretion of the Head and according to other criteria.

How to Apply

Anyone who wishes to be considered for a scholarship should complete an application form and return to the school for the attention of the Registrar. This should be signed by both the applicant and a parent / guardian and be accompanied by a covering letter. Application forms can be obtained by contacting the Registrar on 01482 657016.

We encourage our Sixth Formers to take on responsibility and develop independence, maturity and leadership skills.

Studies at AS and A2 level are challenging. However with a high level of motivation and commitment, many pupils find their time in the Sixth Form to be the most stimulating, enriching and rewarding of their school career.

Sixth Form at Hull Collegiate School is a transitional period, as pupils move from the more structured study style of Year 11, to the self-sufficiency required in Further and Higher Education. It is not a journey however that our sixth formers take alone. On the contrary, we analyse and monitor each pupil’s progress to ensure that they receive the very best academic, career and pastoral guidance.

In the Sixth Form pupils identify their strengths and interests, and have the opportunity to develop them. They can concentrate on subjects they particularly enjoy, and study them in greater depth and detail.
