Invicta Grammar School is an over subscribed 11-18 selective girls’ school admitting boys into the sixth form. There are 1,325 students on roll – 900 in years 7 – 11 and 425 in years 12 and 13. Our school is widely recognised as being innovative and highly successful. We have Business and Enterprise Specialist Status with emphasis on the enterprise culture we aim to create in our school. We believe this is crucial in our ethos in encouraging our students, whatever their targets and skills, to be independent, highly motivated achievers who enjoy school and the success it brings.
We have been named in Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector’s Report 2003-4 as outstandingly successful – this is the second time we have gained this national recognition.

Academic Standards
We are proud that our students are very successful. In 2005, at GCSE 100% of students achieved 5 A* - Cs at GCSE and the majority 9 or 10 with 55.5% A/A* grades. At A level our students achieved a 100% pass rate of which 50% were A/B grades. The Average Points Score was 372 per student, putting us in the top 5% of schools nationally, and our value added scores are both KS2 to 4 and KS4 to 5. Our value added score of 1039 in 2005 from KS2-KS4 places us as the leading state school in Kent.

| Our curriculum at Key Stage 3 (year 7 and 8) includes all the National Curriculum subjects (art & design, English with drama, geography, history, mathematics, modern languages –French, German and Spanish, music, physical education, religious education, design technology, information communication technology and three sciences – biology, chemistry and physics) citizenship and personal and social education. An options system operates in Key Stage 4, years 9 and 10. All students having the opportunity to gain eight or nine GCSE grades at the end of year 10 together with two half GCSE courses in religious studies and citizenship and some students study for one or two AS levels. In year 11 from 2007 students may opt for a variety of AS courses or AS/GCSE taking AS/A2s in year 12 and 13. Students from other schools will still be able to join the school to follow either a two year or three year course of A level study. We offer all Key Stage 3 subjects through to A level together with business studies, economics, media studies, politics, psychology, sociology and drama. We also offer AVCEs in health & social care, information communication technology and business studies.
In the current year 12, students take four or five AS subjects, continuing with at least three to full A level. They also follow a general studies course which can also be taken at AS or A level. Key skills are highlighted throughout all subjects. The majority of our students proceed to courses at Universities and in the last academic year all students who made applications successfully found suitable places in higher education. |
| Our staff are very dedicated and we offer a wide range of extra curriculum activities. These include the very popular Duke of Edinburgh scheme, visits abroad to places both near and far e.g. France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Japan and staff have the opportunity to take part in visits if they choose to do so.
We have a well-earned reputation in a variety of sports and our teams consistently win cups and awards at National and local level. We also enjoy a widespread reputation for excellence in Drama and Music.
During the school lunch break activities are organised by both students and staff to enable students from all years to take part in a wide range of activities. Some of these are subject based but many are purely for interest and enjoyment. Our charitable events are outstanding. Students regularly raise £10,000 or more for local, national and international causes. We encourage students to take part in both day visits and residential visits and we believe these are essential to broaden students’ perspectives not only for curriculum development but also for their own cultural and personal development. |
| Introduction
All A levels will comprise six units, or modules, the first three making up the Advanced Subsidiary (AS) course, and the second three, A2 making up the second half of the full A level course. Each module will be assessed separately, the AS examinations taking place at the end of year 12 (generally) and the A2 examinations at the end of year 13. As all the A2 modules assume knowledge from the AS modules, it is not possible to take A2 modules without first taking AS modules.
It is possible to re-sit modules in the Summer of year 13, each module can only be retaken once at present.
Each A level subject also develops some or all of the Key Skills – core skills of communication, application of number, information technology, and wider skills of working with others, problem solving, improving own learning and performance. The core Key Skills will be certified separately (up to the equivalent of AS level), but as not every combination of subjects will be able to deliver all the Key Skills, students will also follow a General Studies course which will incorporate Key Skills. This course can also lead to an AS or A level qualification.
