Our Admissions Policy
Priority will be given to pupils on our waiting list. Admission of pupils other than normal entry in September is by arrangement with the Headteacher. Places are normally only available at the start of a new term, unless the family has moved house and it is impossible for the pupil to continue at the current school.
Admission to Nursey
Iqra School has a Nursery and can offer places to 26 children. The Nursery is only openin the morning. Nursery staff will make home visits as appropriate throughout the year.
Before children are admitted into the Nursery
( usually when they are three years old) the child and parent are invited for a visit. Booklets and information are given out on that day.
Admission to Reception Classes
Children will be admitted to Reception classes at the beginning of the Autumn term of the year in which they are five. The school has a planned admission limit, agreed with the LEA, of 60. If there are more than 60 children on the waiting list, the list will be sent to the appropriate LEA officer who will award places according to the LEA policy. The decision is made after looking at the following: -
- Whether there are brothers or sisters already at the school, and who will still be there when the new child comes in.
- Those who live in the school's catchment area for that year of intake. This means that the council officer considers a boundary around the school and the 60 children who live within the boundary are awarded places at Iqra. The boundary can be different each year.
Admissions to Years One, Two, Three, Four, Five and Six
The school has a planned admission limit, agreed with the council, of 60 children in each year group. A class will be regarded as full when it reaches 30. If parents ask for a place where the year group is full, or where all the classes are full, then their child's name will be put on a waiting list. If another child leaves and a place becomes free in the middle of term then that place will be given to a child to start at the beginning of the following term, using the following criteria: -
- The new child has a brother or sister in school.
- The new child lives within the catchment area for that year group.
- Children with SEN Statements who have requested and been granted a place.

The education of children benefits from a partnership between the home and school. As a school we have an obligation to educate your child and help them to achieve their full potential. You also have an obligation to support the school in this. By law we have to produce a Home School Contractl which sets out clearly what is expected both of school and parents. You will be required to sign and keep one copy of the agreementl the other copy will be kept at school.
