ADMISSIONS TO OUR SCHOOL
As mentioned previously, pupils entering Jane Lane already have a Statement of Special Education Needs and have been identified as having Moderate Learning Difficulties.
It has been agreed by the Governing Body and the Local Authority, that the total number within all Key stages should not exceed 135 pupils. Pupils are referred to the school via the new entrants policies of the Local Education Authority.
Transfer to Jane Lane can occur at any age, starting from the term in which the children are 5 years old. Transfer at Year 10 or Year 11, however, is not ideal as pupils do not have much time in school to benefit by the move.
Parents considering whether to send their child to Jane Lane are welcome to make an appointment with the Headteacher to visit the school and to discuss any concerns.
In addition, we feel that it is important that any child who may be about to enter Jane Lane should visit beforehand. In this way we hope to involve the child as much as possible at all stages and to familiarise them with their new surroundings in order to reduce any feelings of insecurity.
In certain circumstances it is possible for a child who is to attend Jane Lane full time, to begin with a programme of gradual transition spending 2 or 3 days each week in both schools, for a limited period. The decision is taken after discussion with the child’s parents and present school, and if necessary the Educational Psychologist, as such an arrangement does not suit every child.
It is also possible for parents who are unsure of Special Educational provision and who may have a child with special needs still attending a mainstream school to make an appointment to see the Headteacher to have an ‘awareness’ visit.
