Kates Hill is a happy multicultural primary school situated near to the centre of Dudley.
A real strength of the school is the diversity and quality of our staff. We have 18 full-time teachers, and 5 part-time ones, 7 Nursery Nurses, 13 Teaching Assistants, a Higher Level Teaching Assistant and a Learning Link Worker. |
Discipline is good and our expectations are high. We encourage children to take pride in their appearance and consequently their school. Good attitudes to work are the norm and children are regularly praised for their achievements.
Pastoral care is good. We follow up all lateness and absences and share with each other our concerns about children and families. We try to offer support to all our families when needed and care for their problems. |

We are proud of our academic achievements, which are continually improving, although we know that there is still a great deal of room for improvement. We are also proud of the broad curriculum that we offer. Each term we have a focus week in school when we abandon our usual curriculum. Recently we have had African-Caribbean Week, Environment Week and Creative Week, with outside artists inspiring us. |
|
We offer children lots of opportunities for out of school hours learning. We have a Cricket Clubs, Choir, Performing Arts Club, Dance Club, French Club and ICT Club. Many of our children excel in the arts and sports and we are very proud of them. |
|
We are committed to involving parents and the community in our children’s education. Being part of the Excellence cluster enables us to develop initiatives to really engage parents in their children’s learning. We have a mums and toddlers group and organise lots of courses for parents. We also visit young children at home to encourage play opportunities. |

Primary School Admission Arrangements |
All children start school in the school year in which they reach the age of five. School years begin in September and end in the following August. There are two admission dates; September, for children whose fifth birthday falls between September and the end of February; and January, for children whose birthday falls between March and the following August.
The admission limit for Kates Hill is 50
If the school is oversubscribed, places will be allocated according to the Local Education Authority’s admission criteria for Community Schools.

The timetable for admissions to Primary Schools in September 2006 and January 2007 will be as follows:
-
Information to parents Autumn Term 2007
-
Closing date for applications 31st January 2008
-
Decisions to parents End of March 2008
-
Appeals arranged Summer Term 2008
When your child is offered a place at Kates Hill, you will be invited to attend a meeting for new parents and we shall arrange two or three preliminary visits for you to bring your child into school to meet the teacher and the other new children. As the majority of the children who come to our Primary School have been to our Nursery, the transition is very smooth and problem free for the children. |
Nursery Admissions |
Parents are required to fill in an admission form once their child is two years old. Once a place in the Nursery becomes available the Home/ School Liaison Teacher who will offer you either a morning or afternoon place at nursery will visit you at home. You will then be invited to our Pre-Nursery group, which runs for six weeks before your child starts Nursery. At these sessions you will be given a date for your child to start. Children cannot start Nursery until they have had their third birthday. |

The School Curriculum |
The curriculum at Kates Hill School is exciting and delivered through a variety of approaches; single subject teaching, cross- curricular teaching and group teaching are used.
EACH CHILD WORKS AT HIS/HER OWN LEVEL REGARDLESS OF THE CLASS HE/SHE IS IN
This means that according to his or her ability a child may be working at a slower or quicker pace than the majority of his or her fellow pupils. All work is related to the Programmes of Study and the Attainment Targets of the National Curriculum.
Copies of the National Curriculum Documents for all subjects are available for inspection in the school.
The Wider Curriculum
At Kates Hill we offer all children a much broader education than the National Curriculum. We do this by providing opportunities for children to achieve their potential in sport and the performing arts both in school and in out of school hours clubs. We invite visitors into school as well as taking the children on visits and we have focus weeks such as "African-Caribbean Week" and "Environment Week" |
