Kenton is a small, friendly village school which seeks to provide a stimulating learning environment in which all children feel cared for, happy and part of our school family. We value our partnership with parents and families. Our staff and governors work closely to
maintain a community based on harmony and high expectation. Through working together we
have created a climate in which children achieve their best.
AIMS OF THE SCHOOL
At Kenton Primary School we endeavour to ensure that every child and member of staff will:
be healthy
stay safe
enjoy and achieve
make a positive contribution
and prepare for the future.
CURRICULUM
The staff is constantly reviewing the best way to deliver the curriculum. The Primary Strategy is
central to this, and we aim to provide as broad and as balanced a curriculum diet as possible. Many
of the Foundation subjects are ‘blocked’ over a week or two week period rather than taught
separately each week. This method of organising the curriculum provides good links with the
National Literacy and Numeracy strategies, so that these elements of our curriculum are more
integrated and skills learnt can be applied to other subject areas.
THE CURRICULUM FOR THE UNDER FIVES
The age group 3-5 years is now called the ‘Foundation Stage’ and work in reception classes is
based on the ‘Early Learning Goals’.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
The school offers a good range of extra curricular activities, some run by members of staff – others
by members of the community. These include science, sport – relating to the season, art and
design, gardening, drama and music.
