Welcome to La Moye Primary School
History
Victorian Features
While La Moye School has been developed, the original Victorian granite building remains largely untouched. It has a number of features typical of the turn of the century.
Circular Air Vent
To help with the air flow through the loft space this ornate vent was built into the gable end of the school. It is very high up so the painters need ladders to paint it.Sometimes our tennis balls get stuck between the slats.
Boys and Girls Entrances
In 1902 boys and girls came into school through different entrances. Over the doors 'filles' and 'garcons' was carved into the granite. This is french for girls and boys. We don't use these doors any more. Each classroom has its own door to the outside and both the girls and the boys use it.
High Windows
Teachers used to think that if boys and girls could see out of the window they would not concentrate on their reading, writing and arithmetic so the windows were built high up. They were tall so that lots of light could come in.
New Features
The Key Stage Two classes have now settled into the new building. We have plenty of space and are lucky enough to have a computer suite area, with networked P.C.'s. The large pyramid area is a convenient location for activities such as Key Stage assemblies, music, dance and drama.
New materials and building standards have been incorporated into the design. These ensure maximum amount of light through features like the glass pyramid and extensive internal glass windows. We also have modern features such as underfloor heating, high thermal values and sensitive light switches.
