The School buildings
Langley Fitzurse Church of England Primary school is at the heart of Kington Langley village, near Chippenham in Wiltshire.
The oldest part of our school dates back to 1856 and at one time the Headmaster actually lived in the school building. The newest part is the Cherry Hall where we have assembly. It is also used for lunchtimes and P.E.
The Cherry Hall was designed by local Architect Nick Elkins who lives in the village and was named by the children, after the most recent tree we have planted
In the community
We are proud to say that Langley Fitzurse school is a major contributor to our local village and community, and we regularly have enquiries from people wishing to move into our catchment area.
We have revalidated for our Healthy schools award especially for our focus on developing children's knowledge of local food, healthy eating and cooking. We have also gained Investors in People.
Our PSHE curriculum including learning how to be a good learner has been praised by our GPA and as such we have been judged by the LA as outstanding for Personal Development and Well being.
We have focused on developing innovative and creative ways of teaching using profound learning experiences - involving children in activities like educational visits, welly walks, meeting visitors, hands-on learning, residential visits and much more! Our curriculum has been judged to be rich, flexible and varied by the LA. We plan using the National Curriculum key skills - communication, application of number, information technology, learning with others, improving their own learning and problem solving.
This year we have also focused on developing children's writing through our Primary Learning Network. We have developed detailed assessment criteria and encourage the pupils to not only self assess but use peers to help evaluate their learning.
