ABOUT US

Lever House Primary School offers a Primary Education to children from the ages of 4 – 11 years. The building is an attractive open-plan design and was built in 1969. It is equipped to cater for the needs of children of all abilities and interests, and currently admits 37 children in each academic year.

We provide a safe, happy, stimulating and creative environment for children to achieve their best in all areas of their lives.

We have been awarded the Investors in People Award and the National Healthy Schools Status Award.

AIMS

  • To provide a supportive, secure and stimulating learning environment within which, each child has the opportunity to reach their full potential in academic, creative, physical and moral areas.
  • To prepare our children for the experiences, opportunities and responsibilities of adult life, and to develop in them a full appreciation for the quality of both natural and man-made environments.

CURRICULUM

Lever House School follows the National Curriculum Programmes of Study as set down by the Department for Education. These requirements set out the teaching programmes that all schools have to follow. As part of the National Curriculum there are also requirements to formally assess the children when they are 7 and again when they are 11. These come at the end of what are termed Key Stages. Key Stage 1 covers Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Key Stage 2 covers Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. When the children transfer to High School they enter Key Stage 3.

It is a requirement that we inform parents of the outcome of these assessments against various levels of achievement that are set down.

The levels we are most concerned with in the Primary School are Levels 1-5. It is expected that most 7 year olds will reach Level 2, and most 11 year olds, Level 4. Lever House is a Community Primary School and as such has regard to the guidelines issued by the County concerning Curriculum organisation. All schools in the area follow the National Curriculum but it is very much left to the discretion of the schools how this curriculum is presented.

AFTER SCHOOL

There are a wide range of activities children are encouraged to participate in. The PE curriculum provides activities in dance, games, gymnastics, athletics and swimming (Years 4 and 5 only). A variety of sport instructors also come into school to provide extra activity. These range from Aerobics and Athletics to Football and Dance. We also offer extra-curricular clubs in cricket, football, rugby, rounders and netball (Hi-5).
