The School is a direct successor to the Free Grammar School at Southover, Lewes and was originally founded in 1512.
Affectionately and universally known as "LOGS" - Lewes Old Grammar School is a co-educational independent Day school - accredited by the Independent Schools Council - combining high educational standards small classes and a caring, well-mannered environment with economic fee levels
Our Headmaster Robert Blewitt is continuing to develop its academic and sporting curriculum as well as forging many links with between the School and the local community

The Junior Department is located in its own building in the residential part of Lewes.
Entry is from 3 (Nursery School) - 4+ (main school) and the school participates in the East Sussex Early Years programme.
Classes generally do not exceed 20 and a good grounding in basic literary and numeracy skills is provided. Particular emphasis is placed on reading and spelling, the use of number and knowledge of tables.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities and educational visits are a feature of the programme in the Junior Department.
- The National Curriculum is used as a basis for teaching but is expanded to create the maximum opportunity for development and progress
- A broad and balanced curriculum includes Mathematics, English, History, Geography, Science, Information Technology, French, Music, Art and Religious Education
- National curriculum testing takes place at Key Stages 1 and 2
- From the age of 9, pupils are set a small amount of homework daily
- Sporting activities include football, cricket, netball, athletics and swimming with fixtures against other schools

The Senior Department is located in two separate buildings situated very near to each other in the centre of Lewes. Although classes are mixed, pastoral care is provided separately for boys and girls. Combining small classes and good teaching, the school aims to ensure that each pupil should achieve his or her full potential.
- Pupils follow a broadly based curriculum which takes them up to GCSE level.
- National Curriculum testing takes place at Key Stage 3
- Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught as separate subjects throughout the Senior Department
- Most pupils study nine GCSE subjects in years 10 and 11. There are opportunities for able pupils to take additional subjects
- The importance of Information Technology is recognised and the school has made a considerable investment in providing computer facilities
- Homework is regularly set. From year 9 onwards, this normally takes two hours to complete. In year 8, some one and three quarter hours is expected and a slightly lesser amount in year 7.
- 'Setting' in most subjects takes place from year 8.
- Written reports are issued on a half-termly basis and there is a full programme of consultation evenings for parents.
- The school operates a programme of careers guidance in association with the Sussex Careers Service and ISCO

The Sixth Form is situated in Tyne House, a Grade 2 star listed building in the centre of Lewes which is adjacent to the Senior Department buildings.
Members of the Sixth Form have an important part to play in the life of the school as a whole and are expected and encouraged to demonstrate responsibility and leadership.
Most Sixth Form students proceed to take up places at universities and guidance is given on university courses and application procedures.
- A comprehensive range of subjects is offered at AS and A2 levels together with Key Skills courses
- All subjects are taught by specialist teachers and teaching groups rarely exceed 10 pupils
- Members of the Sixth Form each have a personal tutor who takes a keen interest in the progress of the students in his or her care
- Students are encouraged to take part in field studies, visits and lecture courses
- Many social activities take place outside school including visits to the theatre, opera and concerts

All pupils are encouraged to participate in the school's varied extra curricular programme
There are many clubs and activities which take place during the lunch break and after school.
Starting in September 2001 - the school day is being extended slightly to accomodate a revised timetable that includes an extra two hours per week of extra-curricular activities towards the end of the school day.
- Sports include football hockey cricket tennis netball basketball swimming and athletics with a programme of fixtures against other schools
- The school has its own small orchestra and tuition in many instruments can be arranged
- The School Choirs perform at a number of events during the school year
- There is rolling programme of drama and musical productions with at least one major drama and musical function each year together with several minor productions
- At 13 pupils can join the school's Army Cadet Force and participate in adventure activities and summer camps
- Numerous excursions and visits take place throughout the school year and there are regular visits abroad.
- The Sixth form has an established exchange arrangement with a school in Morocco
