SPORT
Another strength of the school is that of sport. We make full use of the playground courts, playing field and neighboring recreation ground to coach netball, hockey, rugby, 'kwik' cricket, tennis and athletics. Our current new hall completed in 2003 is fully equipped for gymnastics and is well used.
Alongside class lessons, lunchtime and after school clubs are run in netball, hockey, football and gymnastics.
Inter-school matches are held on a weekly basis and a range of area tournaments are contested. We are very proud not only of our success in competition but also of t e range of sports we play and the number of children that become involved.
MUSIC
Music Plays a very important part in the life of Longstone School. We have two specialist teachers who work with the classes and, alongside other instrumental teachers, offer lessons to individual pupils. The majority of our children learn at least one instrument. Lots of encouragement is given to these children to perform in end of term shows, mid-term concerts and weekly special assemblies. Instrument tuition is available in the following: brass and woodwind (including cornet, clarinet, saxophone, and flute ). Piano (we have two clavinovas and an acoustic piano ), violin, classical guitar, drums ( We have an electric 'virtual' drum kit ) and recorder. The children are encouraged to practise during free time at school. School groups include: Main Orchestra, String Trio, Recorders-from beginners through to Recorder Consort and folk Group. |
