Lothersdale Community Primary School is a locally managed co-educational school, maintained by the Education Authority of North Yorkshire County Council.
The school is in the village of Lothersdale with the original building constructed in 1891. In 2001 a classroom, offices and additional toilets were added, providing exceptional facilities for a school of our size. In 2004 a new classroom and additional storage space were added above the school hall. Ours is a small school that recognises that children have individual needs and our aim is to encourage every child to develop their maximum potential.
Our achievements have been recognised by a number of relevant agencies. In 2000-2001 we were awarded a Quality Mark by the Basic Skills Agency. This was renewed in February 2004 for a further 3 years. In 2003 and 2004 we were judged by the local education authority to be a Highly Effective school (an accolade awarded to only 80 of the 390 primary schools in North Yorkshire). In 2004 we gained the prestigious Arts Mark Gold Award. We have also received School Achievement Awards for the last three years. These are given by the Department for Education & Skills for achieving and maintaining high standards in education. In September 2005 we became part of the Sustaining Success programme working nationally with 549 other high performing schools to identify what makes a school successful and how this success can be sustained.
In January 2006 OFSTED judged our school to be outstanding with no significant areas for improvement.
The governors of the school are drawn from the local community and are committed to working with the staff and the local education authority to continually improve on the high standards of education currently provided and to enhance the educational environment in which this is delivered.
