| WELCOME!!!
Manor Primary School was first opened as a Junior School in 1973
and was re-organised into a Primary School in 1991. The school occupies
a pleasant and interesting site on a south facing slope with views
across the Erme Valley.
The main building is on two levels with ten classrooms, hall, practical
areas,
library, music and resources rooms, pullman corridor and kitchen.
There is also a converted barn, which serves as an extra classroom
and three mobile classrooms, two of which are occupied by the Manor
Pre-School and Out of School Clubs.
|
| The school caters for children aged 4-11. A child is not of compulsory
school age until the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday.
It is the policy of the Devon Authority that a child may be admitted
to school before their fifth birthday. A child may therefore
start school:
In September if their birthday falls on or between 1st September
and the end of February.
In January if their birthday falls on or between 1st March and 31st
August.
We can admit 40 children each year into the foundation class in accordance
with the school's Criteria of Admission and Designated Area
which are attached to this prospectus.
|
| The curriculum at Manor Primary is considered to be child-centred
where consideration is given to what the children know, are interested
in and can do, as well as what they can usefully learn next.
Children are viewed as individuals, each with their own characteristics
and learning needs. Manor Primary attempts to honour the uniqueness
of every child while recognising that each individual is a member of a
community, needing to learn how to help others and to use help from
others as well as working individually.
Our central concern in planning the curriculum is to support the
school's broad educational aims and to meet the identified needs of
the children through its formal programme of lessons and extracurricular
activities. We firmly believe that the primary curriculum
should be based on the reality of the child. The early years of a
child's education are vital and we should create firm foundations in
their knowledge and understanding
of basic concepts and provide
them with the skills to learn, and to continue to learn in a rapidly
changing world.

| At Manor, we offer an extensive range of clubs covering a wide spectrum of interests. Clubs include virtually all sporting domains from football and rugby to athletics and cricket. Sporting clubs run all year round and lead into many locals and County wide festivals and tournaments. Health, fitness and teamwork skills are also considered integral to any successful sporting clubs.
Many other clubs include those from dance, drama and the arts. We also take part in the Junior Ten Toors event and have an active ground improvement club.
|
| As a follow on from ‘clubs’, Manor primary school commits itself to entering many local IAAC and Devon-wide festivals and sporting tournaments. This caters for children who seek to further their skills and take part in competitive sport at a range of levels, from friendly to country wide recognition.
We have a proud tradition and have an impressive record in many of the competitions held. We seek to share all sporting achievements, both inside and outside school in assemblies, and promote healthy lifestyles in our children.
