We hope you will enjoy this first important step into the world of education.
We aim to provide a safe, happy and stimulating atmosphere where your child can gain in confidence, new skills and experiences and develop independence.
Your child will learn to mix with other children and learn how to co-operate with them and adults.
Children are admitted into the Nursery, for a morning or afternoon session, in the year following their third birthday.
We are able to offer sixteen children day care sessions at £8 per day to provide full time places. These children need to bring a packed lunch with them each day.
When you admit your child to the nursery you will need to bring with you your child's birth certificate and some proof of where you live (such as rent book or child benefit book).
All children must be brought into the nursery by an adult. They must also be collected by an adult.
It is important that children are brought to school on time so that they can start their activities with everyone else.
Activities
Early Years of Foundation stage curriculum is based on the six areas of learning leading to the Early Learning Goals. These are:
1. Personal & Social 2. Communication, Language & Literacy 3. Mathematics 4. Physical 5. Knowledge & Understanding of the World 6. Creativity
Clothing
Your child will need a coat or jacket to wear outside when the weather is fine. A spare pair of pants/knickers and socks are useful to leave in school. Drawstring bags to keep these are sold in school.
Please dress your child in practical, washable clothes. These should be clearly marked with your child's name.
Although we provide aprons for messy activities such as painting etc. accidents can still happen.
If children are wearing clothes which they can manage themselves their confidence will grow quickly. Children may be distressed by an accident in the toilet because they are hampered by clothes with difficult fastenings.
Watches, jewellery and items of value are not allowed in the nursery. We also discourage children from bringing toys from home.
When children start going to the hall for P.E. they will need a pair of black plimsolls.
Milk time
Milk is provided for the nursery children free of charge. Please advise the nursery staff if your child does not drink milk.
Drinking water is always available for children who do not want milk, or they may bring a carton of still drink.
The children are expected to sit quietly whilst they are drinking and we encourage good manners at all times.
Birthdays
If your child's birthday falls in term time we will be happy to show their cards to acknowledge their special day.
Story time
The children may choose a book from the nursery story corner, each week, to enjoy at home.
They will need a book folder, available to buy from the school office.
Your child will stay in the nursery until the following September.
As the children become secure within the Foundation Base environment they will be encouraged to visit other areas of the school. This may be to watch class assemblies or visit the school library.
Can you help us?
We use a lot of recycled materials (e.g. cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, margarine pots, fabric, wool, newspaper, foil, inner cardboard rolls (not toilet rolls) and buttons please for our modelling and craft work.
We always require unneeded items of uniform (all children's sizes) for ‘little accidents' and plastic rain macs or Wellington boots your child may have grown out of.
The children will feel more ‘at home' if they witness friendship and co-operation between their parents and the school. The nursery benefits enormously from the work of our helper parents, so if you can spare any time, even one session occasionally, please let us know.
Should you have any queries, regarding your child, do not hesitate to contact the nursery teacher or the Headteacher who will be pleased to offer any help or advise they can.
Above all please know that you are welcome. |
