ABOUT US

At Matthew Moss High School we are very proud of our site which is situated in pleasant grounds with farm land on two sides. We have a well equipped and modern school. Over the last two years £2M has been spent on a new sports hall, new classrooms and accommodation for Drama and our Learning Mentors. We are now in the middle of a programme to remodel all of our science labs.

Our most potent asset is our people. We have a talented staff who have developed into a cohesive team which places successful learning for students first. They spend long hours planning and developing programmes and work very hard at ‘constant improvement.’

AIMS

  • Establish and sustain an atmosphere in which learning is successful and is enjoyed.
  • Establish entitlement and access to a broad and balanced curriculum for all students based on a commitment to equality of opportunity.
  • Sustain a caring, supportive atmosphere within a framework for personal growth, developing each person’s sense of worth, responsibility and self-discipline.
  • Enable the school to operate effectively at the heart of the community.
  • Sustain a climate where students take pride in their work, school and community, within an ethos of high expectations that sees us all striving for excellence.

CURRICULUM

All students follow an entitlement curriculum including the National Curriculum. This is taught to all form groups across the ability range and includes: English (inc. English Lit.), Mathematics, Science, Humanities (inc. History, Geography, Religious Education); Modern Languages (based on French with Urdu available in years 10/11), Technology (including DiDA, Electronics, Resistant Materials, Food & Graphic Products); Creative & Performing Arts (inc. Art, Music, Drama), Physical Education, I.C.T., Personal, Social & Health Education, Citizenship and Careers guidance.

EXTENDED CURRICULUM

The School is proud to offer an EXTENDED CURRICULUM and accepts that many worthwhile learning opportunities exist outside the formal timetabled curriculum. We therefore offer extended curriculum days and weeks to provide our students with a flexible, balanced and exciting variety of learning experiences. This may involve outdoor pursuits, such as orienteering, abseiling, camping and canoeing as well as field trips in Geography, History or Science.

EXTRA-CURRICULUM

In addition to the many subjects and extended curriculum activities, our students are able to take advantage of a variety of EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. All students have the opportunity to participate in team and individual sports. These include sporting activities such as: Rugby, Netball, Football, Athletics, Cricket, Basketball, Lacrosse, Trampolining and Leisure Club. We encourage our students to develop their sporting skills and expertise and they have gained representative honours in a variety of sports. Our students also have the opportunity to join some of the clubs that use our Sports Hall in the evening. There is a very good provision for extra curricular activities.
