ABOUT US

Millbrook is a Community Primary school, which caters for the education of boys and girls from the age of four plus to eleven years. It is expected that there will be 203 children on roll in September 2008. There is also a pre-school offering education to 3 and 4 year olds.

AIMS

The aims of the school are the same for all children. We seek to enable all our children:

  • To be happy, cheerful, well balanced and enjoy school
  • To develop lively and enquiring minds
  • To question and debate rationally and apply themselves to the task in hand
  • Children to be confident and independent
  • To have respect for religious and moral values and tolerance of the beliefs of other people
  • To acquire skills that will maximise their potential contribution to society and to awaken and foster their aesthetic awareness and understanding of the society in which they live

CURRICULUM

Early Years Curriculum

The activities in Play Along and in Reception develop children’s skills towards Early Learning Goals following the curriculum for Foundation Stage. A transition stage in Year 1 prepares the children for the National Curriculum. Our Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum has been judged to have reached the standards required for the Wigan Quality Standard.

The core curriculum at Key stages 1 and 2 consists of English, Maths, Science, ICT and RE

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Children and parents are invited to use the School Library after school to borrow fiction and non-fiction books, as well as story tapes to use at home. When weather permits there is a Netball club run by Mrs Farrington, which is open to boys and girls. We continue to provide peripatetic instrumental tuition for brass instruments, clarinet, flute, guitar, violin and keyboard. There is a charge for these activities which may be held after school, although some bursaries are available. Recorder groups are taught within the school timetable by our Music School Manager, Mrs Philpot.

A range of after school clubs such as Art and Dance are available throughout the year, generally in blocks of 6 to 8 weeks. These are provided by the teachers. There is no charge for these clubs.
