About the School

In idyllic surroundings amongst woods and orchards on the slopes of the North Downs, the School is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac on the outskirts of the village of Milstead. Pupils are drawn from Milstead, Frinsted, Wormshill and other villages in the area, as well as Sittingbourne, which lies four miles to the North. The School was founded in 1848 and is still partly housed in the original building although there is now a modern extension which was completed in 2000, a toilet block and a separate mobile classroom. The extensive grounds include an all-weather playground, a playing field and a tree trail which ensures all pupils can take part in a variety of sporting and physical activities. The School is also a member of the South Sittingbourne Cluster of small primary schools, a lively liaison group that offers the benefits of joint activities such as sport and theatre visits. As well as being both educational and enjoyable, these joint activities help the children to develop their social and communication skills. At Milstead and Frinsted Primary School we have a dedicated team of teachers offering a high standard of education in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere where each child is encouraged to develop their individual strengths and helped to overcome difficulties. The aims of Physical Education are to develop the ability of all pupils to move safely, effectively and efficiently and understand what they are doing and how it is achieved. We aim to promote understanding of the benefit of exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Pupils will develop their gross and fine motor skills, extending and refining their control and co-ordination and practising these skills in small-sided team games. At Junior level, 6% of total (i.e. all subject) teaching time is given over to team games and 4% to individual sporting activities. Football: Every Wednesday, an after school Football club is run by police-checked helpers, for all ages. We play short, but competitive matches against other small schools. The Acorns play between 3:00pm and 3:30pm, whilst The Oaks play from 3:30pm until 4:20pm. Swimming: On Tuesday mornings, during certain times of the year, the whole school travels to a local swimming pool for supervised swimming lessons. Cricket: Cricket coaching has been arranged for children in years 5 and 6. It will take place every Wednesday from 7th until 28th.
