ABOUT US

There has been a school on the Mytham site since 1811 (the name Mytham goes back to 17th century Little Lever). Originally the school was an all age Wesleyan school but in 1934 the main building was opened as the Little Lever Senior School. In 1944 it was renamed as Little Lever County Secondary School. In 1966 the school was closed and the buildings were converted into a primary school. In 1968 Mytham County Primary School opened. The new hall and extension were completed in 1996. The latest development on the site was the Early Years Unit and Computer Suite opened in 2001.

CURRICULUM

The National Curriculum applies to all of our children of statutory school age and is organised into Key Stages. Key Stage 1 applies to children aged 5 years to 7 year olds (Years 1 and 2). Key Stage 2 applies to 7 to 11 year olds (Years 3 – 6). The school governors have as a requirement of the Education Reform Act, written and published a set of policy statements concerning the curriculum. These and all National Curriculum literature can be viewed in school. [There is a separate booklet telling you about the curriculum in the Early Years (Reception) please ask for one].

The School curriculum covers ten subjects plus Religious Education. Within school we aim to develop the child’s knowledge, skills and attitudes. We try to relate the curriculum to real life learning and cater for the individual needs of all pupils. We have high expectations and standards and always look to improve the quality of teaching and learning for all children.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Staff organise extra curricular activities during and after the school day. We also bring coaches into school who support our programmes of activities. For some activities parents may need to pay. This enables the children to experience a broad range of activities. Prior permission will be sought from parents before a child is included on any school trip. Whilst in the Juniors the children have the opportunity to spend time away from home at a residential outdoor pursuits centre.
