Welcome to the New Road School & Nursery Unit

We view the education of your child as a partnership between you (the parent) and the school. During the seven years that your child is with us we will work with you to create a safe, stimulating and caring environment in which your child can develop.

Our aim is to assist in the all round development of your child; intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, morally, socially and physically. To do this we will try to make the full range of experiences on offer at the school available to your child.

This is an open school and you as a parent will have a full record / information about your child's progress. We believe that your child has the right to feel safe and secure whilst here.

We also believe that children should be polite, well behaved and tolerant of other children and adults with whom they share the school.

The achievements and efforts of your child will be celebrated by us whenever possible.

It is always our aim to provide your child with a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum designed to meet the needs of his / her development and for your child to achieve the best possible standards they are capable of.

CURRICULUM

The National Curriculum is the main focus of children's work at New Road School.  Children will be taught all its elements and checks on their progress are made at every stage.

There are specific national targets to aim for, and as children get older and learn more, the targets become steadily more difficult.

At the centre of the National Curriculum are the 'core' subjects of Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Information Technology and R.E.  The other subjects are History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education and Design Technology.

At our school we place a great emphasis on the development of the basic skills of Literacy and Numeracy.

We also place a great deal of importance on high standards of behaviour and developing a caring community within the school.  Personal Health and Social Care is taught as part of the curriculum and contributes to the development of our children into caring citizens of the future.

UNIFORM

The school uniform is royal blue and grey and is now recognised throughout the school.  All children are expected to wear it.

A school sweatshirt and polo shirt are available and can be purchased from the school secretary.  All children should have plimsolls, vest, shorts or a leotard for P.E.  This kit is to be kept in a named P.E. bag, which can also be purchased from the school.

Medway Council does not accept responsibility for loss or damage to pupils' personal property.  Parents are requested to ensure that all property brought into the school is clearly marked with the child's name.

Children are not allowed to wear any form of jewellery to school.  If ears are pierced then only studs are suitable to be worn in school.  These must be removed for P.E. or swimming.  They may only be removed by the child and NOT the staff.  Our suggestion is that children do not wear earrings to school on P.E. days.

However Year 5 and 6 children may wear watches to school.  These should be clearly named.

Children should not bring toys or special possessions to school unless previously arranged with or specifically requested by the class teacher.  All the children need is provided for them at school, including equipment to play with at lunchtime.  Children can become very upset when their special things get lost or broken and for this reason they are not allowed.
