ABOUT US

Newton Westpark is a community Primary Co-educational Day School for pupils aged 4-11 years.

Newton Westpark Primary is a one form entry school and each of the seven classes consist of children of the same age. The children may work as a whole class, in ability groups or in mixed ability groups. Teaching assistants work in all classes when funds are available.

A Nursery Nurse works within our Infant Department to support reception age children. Special Needs children may sometimes be supported by other adults when funding is available.

AIMS

  • To provide a broad, relevant education based on the Foundation Stage and National Curriculum guidelines.
  • To provide a welcoming, caring and safe environment where children can develop self-respect, a sense of individual worth and are able to co-operate with and show consideration to others.
  • To establish a co-operate partnership between school, parents and the wider community.
  • To provide a rich stimulating environment.
  • To foster independent working.
  • To help pupils develop lively, enquiring minds, the ability to reason and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills.
  • To encourage respect for religious beliefs and moral values and to value people of other races, religions and ways of life.
  • To help children appreciate the value of and essential equality between individuals, regardless of sex, race, culture or disadvantage.

EDUCATION

Teachers in the Infant department work closely with parents in the transition from home to school. Close co-operation and support of parents is encouraged at all times. Reception children are taught the Foundation Stage Curriculum. All other classes are taught the National Curriculum.

Throughout our school a creative and stimulating environment is fostered to promote language development. The National Literacy Strategy is followed in all classes. Great emphasis is placed on the involvement of parents in all stages of literacy. A library area is available in each department where fiction and non-fiction books are accessible to the children. School book clubs and fairs are arranged in order to encourage the ownership of reading books.
