The Governing Body is composed of representatives from the LEA, parent governors elected by the parent body, teacher representatives elected by teaching staff, and governors co-opted because of their links with the wider community, their previous experience in the job or their interest in education. Non-teaching staff can have an elected representative as well but currently this position is vacant. In all, the Governing Body has16 members who are ably supported with guidance and advice from the LEA's Governor Support Service, and from our attached school adviser.
Governors generally serve for a period of four years before the need for re-appointment or re-election and give of their time freely, in what is rapidly becoming an extremely responsible position. The Chairperson, especially, has a heavy load and needs to work closely with the headteacher.
Various committees meet regularly and inform the whole Body of issues discussed and/or decided. The three key committees are those responsible for advising on Staffing and Finance, Curriculum and Premises. Each has a specific remit guiding its work.
The Governing Body's Annual Report to Parents lists members currently serving and gives their period of office. Notification of elections is announced whenever vacancies for parent representatives occur and anyone interested in serving as a governor is invited to contact the headteacher for information.
