Welcome to Oakthorpe Primary School

We are a small village school set in Oakthorpe, part of  North-west Leicestershire, close to the very center of England. To see where we are click on this link > Oakthorpe Primary School Map

We are made up of approximately 100 pupils from the village and surrounding area. We cater for pupils from the age Rising 5 to 11 years. There are two admission dates at Oakthorpe; September and January. Those children with a birth date between September and February start in September and those with a birth date between March and August can start in the January. Upon leaving Oakthorpe Primary most of the children go on to attend Ivanhoe College, then Ashby Grammar School, both in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

As from September 2007, admissions will be changing so that all children will start in the September.

PTFA

Who are the Parent, Teachers and Friends Association?

Primarily parents of children at Oakthorpe School, and of course, the teachers. We are known as the P.T.F.A. and are usually seen organising fundraising and social events through the school year or supporting the school at events that they are holding.

What sort of events do we organise?

Our main fundraising event is our annual Fun Day near the end of the summer term, but other, more social events include:

bullet family discos
bullet themed craft/activity sessions, aimed at the family
bullet seasonal events e.g. Christmas fayre
bullet supporting the school at their events by providing refreshments and raffles

All of the funds that we raise are used directly for the benefit of the school children, usually to provide things that wouldn’t be provided through general school funding, for example:

bullet book bags and caps for new starters at our school
bullet fully funded trip for all children to a pantomime or children’s theatre
bullet games and DVD players for each classroom for wet play and dinner times
bullet dressing up clothes for the younger children
bullet a new school entrance sign and notice board

The notice board on the front wall of the school gives details of P.T.F.A. events and meetings; you will also find that letters are sent home through the children.

How do I get involved?

You, as a parent, are a full member of the P.T.F.A. and are more than welcome to share your ideas and thoughts with us. We usually meet on the first Tuesday of the month during term time with both after school meetings and evening meetings (which may be easier to get to for those who have day time commitments). The ladies of Little Acorns Playgroup are kind enough to provide childcare for us for the afternoon meetings, so rest assured, your children will be well taken care of.

A member of staff, often the Headteacher, attends most meetings so we have the chance to talk about many aspects of school life such as:

bullet P.T.F.A. planned events
bullet school uniform
bullet areas where the P.T.F.A. can support the school
bullet items that the school may wish the PTFA to consider purchasing for the benefit of the children

Sometimes parents are unable to attend meetings but they do still help at the events we organise.

If you would like to get involved, no matter how much or how little, we would be really pleased to hear from you – please ask Mrs Yates or other parents in the playground to point one of us out!
