Park Road is a co-educational day school catering for children aged 3 to 11 years old. Opened in 1939, the school is a horseshoe shaped building, housing seven classrooms, the main hall and administration block, an IT suite, three group teaching rooms, a dining hall and on site kitchen. The nursery is in a separate building close to the infant classrooms and there is a hard surfaced playground, a playing field and a garden area. Many of our parents and local residents came here themselves, so there is a great deal of interest from the local community in the life of the school.

Aims and Mission Statement

Mission Statement

Working in partnership with parents to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of all its pupils.

Aims

Our school aims to foster personal and academic development in a caring, secure, challenging environment so that each individual can achieve his/her full potential.

It recognizees the needs of the community it serves and reflects those needs.

THE GOVERNING BODY'S STATEMENT OF CURRICULUM AIMS

The Governing Body's aims for the school are:

to provide a broad and well balanced education for all its pupils;
to promote within each child a positive self image;
to encourage the partnership between home, school and community;
to provide equal opportunity.

More specifically, to help pupils

  • develop knowledge, skills, concepts, interests and abilities to the maximum of their capabilities;
  • develop lively, inquiring minds, the ability to question and argue rationally, and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills (through a variety of challenging first hand experiences);
  • acquire the knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and to participate as citizens in a rapidly changing world;
  • to acquire reasoned attitudes, values and beliefs including respect for an tolerance of other peoples religious and cultural values and ways of life;
  • to begin to understand and appreciate the world in which we live and the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations;
  • to recognize and appreciate the contributions, achievements and aspirations of others.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

The school aims to provide a broad, balanced curriculum through which all children realise their full potential, developing their individual talents. From the start, our main focus is on the acquisition of the basic skills of literacy and numeracy. We were awarded the Primary Quality Mark for our work in basic skills in 2002 and again in 2005. We use Information and Communication Technology to support many areas of the curriculum and in 2004 we became the first school in Trafford or Salford to be awarded the NAACE mark for high quality work in using ICT to enhance teaching and learning. We hope that pupils will leave us as competent and enthusiastic learners who can meet new challenges with confidence.

Information and Communication Technology

Children learn to use our computer suite from Reception onwards and they also use computers in the classroom. This includes internet access via wireless link in the junior and infant classrooms. In using the internet, we aim to foster a responsible and discriminating attitude to the increasingly wide variety of information that is available. In addition to using information technology to support work across the curriculum, we hope to foster a confidence in the use of computers which will ensure that our children can adapt quickly and easily to the developments and changes in this area which they will meet during their future lives.
