Parklands High School
A Specialist Language College
Southport Road, PR7 1LL, UK Chorley

Parklands High School has a long history of excellence in education and of service to the people of Chorley. The school is a successful and forward looking comprehensive which ensures academic achievements of the highest possible quality for all its pupils. It has gained a reputation for G.C.S.E. success over many years. In addition, the school takes considerable pride in the numbers of its former pupils who go on to higher education.

We aim to make the academic curriculum as broad as possible, whilst giving emphasis to core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. To achieve this we have developed a wide range of subjects, all of which are offered equally to boys and girls.

As far as possible we try to tailor the curriculum to meet individual needs, setting where appropriate, and increasingly as pupils move through the school, to ensure that pupils are taught according to their abilities. A variety of teaching styles and approaches are used to develop the potential of all pupils.

Parklands High School has completed its first phase of Language College development and has embraced its new specialism with a number of new international cross-curricular events to complement the existing linguistic opportunities we offer. We are very excited about the new development, which our second phase will bring.

These opportunities are providing our pupils, and the community as a whole, with an invaluable knowledge and insight into modern British society, with its increased ethnic and cultural diversity, tolerance and ever-growing involvement in international politics. Our adoption of languages as a specialism also reflects the importance of language skills in an increasingly global economy.

Parklands is very fortunate to have purpose built accommodation on an extremely attractive site, providing a pleasant environment in which to work and study.

Recent additions include:

  • A new fully equipped state-of-the-art Language block
  • Superb new Art studios, RE classrooms and Science Laboratory
  • A full size Sports Hall opened recently occasionally used for training by Premiership
  • Football Clubs
  • A recently refurbished library/resource study centre
  • Extensive ICT facilities throughout the school
  • A newly designed performing arts area

We value every individual and are passionately committed to our students’ achievement, personal growth and excellence in everything they do. This is why we place a premium on a highly-qualified experienced teaching staff who give unstintingly of their time and energy to maximise students’ success.

Any student may have special requirements at any stage of their schooling. Some may need extra help to facilitate their learning while some gifted and talented students may need opportunities for extension and enrichment.
