The Organisation Of The School
Parklands Primary School caters for around 300 children aged from 4 to 11 years. There is a Children's Centre attached to the school which can accommodate up to 50 children aged from one to four. We also have on site provision for up to 15 children who have complex learning needs. These children are based in 'Resourced Provision' and are included in many of the school areas. For additional information please contact the school.
Parklands also houses a special provision for local school children. This is known as The Bridge Centre. It caters for the needs of children at risk of exclusion from school.
We have excellent facilities, occupying a spacious building with well protected playgrounds and ample sports field. We have a large school hall, a separate gymnasium and a dining room.
We work in partnership with many support agencies, educational psychologist, speech therapist, etc., as well as local High Schools.

A cafeteria service is used in our dining room for all children.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR PARENTS AND CARERS
School Uniform
It is school policy that all children wear school uniform which is quite simple and inexpensive.
Boys: Grey or dark trousers, white polo shirt, red sweat shirt.
Girls: Grey or dark trousers or skirt, white polo shirt, red sweat shirt.
PE Kit: All children will be expected to bring sensible kit for games and PE lessons, preferably in a bag. Pumps or trainers are essential.
In years 4 and 5 a swimming costume and towel will be needed.
All items of clothing should be labelled.
Jewellery: Is not allowed in school for reasons of safety, except for stud earrings for children with pierced ears and wristwatches.
School accepts NO responsibility for lost items.
Sweets Children are not allowed to bring sweets or chewing gum to school.
School Security
All staff are aware of the need for vigilance and always put the safety of children as their first priority. During the school day all entry points are kept locked and the only access for parents and visitors is via the main entrance which is electronically operated and permanently video monitored. There are several other security cameras placed around the school at strategic points. We believe that this helps keep vandalism to a minimum. All visitors are asked to sign in and out.
Parents And The School
The relationship between parents and school is absolutely vital and can play a major part in the success of your child's education. You are welcome in school to discuss any matters that concern you, although at some times it may be necessary to make an appointment.
Parents can become involved in many ways in school, such as listening to children read, helping in the classroom with practical activities, help on class outings etc. We run toddler groups and also learning workshops where parents can become involved, working alongside their children.
Each term a 'Topic Newsletter is sent home which gives details of exactly what your child will be studying and learning that term. We hope you will use this information to support what your child is doing.
A detailed, written report is issued towards the end of school year and a parent consultation evening is held annually.
For safety reasons children will not allowed to leave the school during school hours (to go to the doctors or dentist for example) unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
Remember that children have a 'once only' chance to go through the school system. Please do everything you can to support and encourage them to be proud of their school and of their achievements. |
