Freedom of Information

To meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, schools need to issue a Fair Processing Notice (FPN) to pupils and/or parents summarising the information held about pupils, why it is held, and the third parties to whom it may be passed on.

The FPN is broken down into three 'layers'.

  • Layer One is a brief notice

  • Layer Two is an amplification giving more information about the organisations who have access to information and the uses they make of it

  • Layer Three is the full Fair Processing Notice.

The documents can be downloaded from the links below or hard copies can be obtained from the school's office manager.

The Tree of Life

'Creative Learning'

The Penn Wood School Tree of Life visually represents the essence and vision of the school. Ofsted (June 2002) recognised the school's strength in the inclusion of all, celebrating diversity and minimising any barriers to learning. As the spirit of the school is totally inclusive, it is responsive to the varying needs of learners. The heart at the centre of the tree represents the all-important beliefs, attitudes, learning styles and values of all learners. The tree is about the growth of the heart and mind - about a range of intelligences including emotional and spiritual intelligence.

Our school is a learning school and 'Love to Learn' celebration weeks, the improving learning environment and 'brain' assemblies that help children to 'learn about learning' are testimony to it. The potential of all to think, create, learn and grow is enormous, just like the potential of the tree to grow from a shoot.

The Tree also creates energy within a staff team that shares leadership. We work creatively to move forward and our recent appointment of an Inclusion Worker completes the vision of a powerful tripartite with the Active Learning Library Manager and the Reach Out Worker. This team name themselves A.I.R. and structure a programme of inclusive practices that powerfully pervade the school ethos.

The Penn Wood School Tree of Life symbolising commitment to raising standards through the creation of a learning school.
