Welcome to Peterhead Academy

As part of our growing commitment to increasing our internet presence, the new Peterhead Academy site brings not only a new look to our site, but also several new features and additions. With our new site, we are able to utilise the internet as a tool to reach into our community and improve communication between staff, pupils and their families. It's this kind of link through our community that forms the backbone of what we believe in at Peterhead Academy.

At Peterhead Academy, we will encourage and support each individual to develop a sense of responsibility and to achieve his or her best through quality learning and teaching. Working together, we will equip our students to meet, in later years, their responsibilities to themselves, their families and communities.
It is in this way that we hope to live up to our school motto, "Domus Super Petram Aedificata"
(A House Built on a Rock).

Once again, thank you for choosing to visit our web site and thank you for your interest in Peterhead Academy.

FACILITIES

Canteens & Catering

Peterhead Academy has excellent catering facilities. Pupils who wish to purchase a lunch-time meal in school may use one of the three dining areas appropriate for their year group (Dining Room S1-2, Milk Bar S3-4 and T Bar S5-6). These areas also serve snacks before registration and during morning interval. Packed lunches may be consumed in the canteens. Our kitchen prepares a wide choice of meal options catering to all tastes.

The school has three vending points: one in the Milk bar (drinks only), one in the Link Corridor by the lecture theatre (serving drinks and snacks) and another at the main entrance (also serving drinks and snacks). As our focus shifts to providing quality healthy meals in all our canteens, our vending machines also only serve healthy drinks and snacks.

Educational research has shown that if children have access to and are encouraged to drink water, it benefits their all round school performance. Aberdeenshire Council, in conjunction with the Scottish Executive decided to make drinking water widely available in schools. Five fountains were installed at Peterhead Academy and pupils are allowed to fill up bottles provided by their parents at these fountains.

Information Technology

Peterhead Academy has always seen the importance of providing quality Information Technology provision, available to all our pupils. As a result, Peterhead Academy has three ICT suites, all of which contain high specification desktop PCs as well as a Smart Board and data projector. All computing suites are air conditioned. We have an advanced networking infrastructure that amply supports our network of over 500 computers.

In addition to these suites, we have specialist computing areas in the Art, Technical, Science and Business Studies departments. The Art and Business Studies computer areas were upgraded in June 2004, with Science following in October 2004.

Within the classrooms, teachers are now using the latest technologies to deliver high impact lessons with the aid of data projectors and Smart Boards. We strive to implement and maintain such technologies across all our teaching areas, while ensureing that they are used effectively.
