The National Curriculum
The National Curriculum applies to children of compulsory school age who attend a maintained school. Usually National Curriculum teaching begins at the beginning of Year One, but some schools now begin teaching the National Curriculum in the Reception year.
Pevensey and Westham School is a primary school and as such has children who are of Reception age through to Key Stage 2. Children aged between five and seven years old are Key Stage 1 pupils, pupils between seven and 11 years old are Key Stage 2 pupils.
The national curriculum consists of 11 subjects, which have to be taught within schools. The subjects covered are split into two groups, core subjects and foundation subjects.
