Welcome To The Plume School

Our school may at first seem a very large one, but it is also a unique school in that our Year 7 and 8 students enjoy the first two years of their secondary education on their own well-equipped campus. Having developed their confidence and their study habits, they are able to transfer to Year 9 to an environment at the Fambridge Road Campus where they can further develop as self-disciplined and independent learners. The size of our school enables us to offer a tremendous range of courses at examination level and it is an excellent reflection on the school that the vast majority of our students choose to move on into our very successful Post-16 College to continue their studies where they are joined by an increasing number of students from other schools.

With a full staffing compliment of enthusiastic and well qualified teachers, I believe that our school has an exciting future to offer your children. I do hope that you will want to come and visit The Plume in order to see our school, talk to staff and, most importantly, talk to students about their school.

At Plume we have decided to produce our yearly prospectus in an electronic format.  Many schools will produce a costly, glossy brochure that soon becomes outdated in the ever changing environment that the school represents.  We would rather spend our budget on teachers and resources to help our students, so we send all parents of Year 6 students a copy of our Governors report and are very happy to provide a paper copy of this prospectus to anyone who requests it.

I do hope that you will be able to visit the school and I look forward to meeting you at Open Evening or at one of our transition events.

Sarah Dignasse
Headteacher

CURRICULUM

The aims of the Curriculum

To ensure that every student will feel that their experience of each part of every school day has been worthwhile and that:

Using Computers
  • their interest has been engaged and challenged
  • they have learned something valuable
  • they have achieved something of which they are proud
  • they have been valued by a range of groups within the school community
  • they have made a useful contribution
  • they have enjoyed themselves

To this end the Curriculum will aim:

Classroom Study
  • to help students to develop lively and enquiring minds
  • to encourage students to question and argue rationally, and to apply themselves to tasks and physical skills
  • to help students acquire the skills and knowledge relevant to the increasingly flexible demands of life and work
  • to help all students to use language and number effectively
  • to instill respect for others with particular reference to other races, and other religions and ways of life as well as respect for their own achievements
  • to help students to appreciate human achievements and aspirations, and understand the world in which they live
  • to help students to make difficult decisions in a responsible manner
  • to help students think independently and creatively, to prepare them for lifelong learning
  • to help students develop the skills necessary to work constructively with others

UNIFORM

The wearing of school uniform is seen as an integral part of school
life and it is expected that full school uniform will be worn whilst
travelling to and from school, as well as during normal school hours.

The school uniform, which we have tried to keep at a reasonable
cost is available from our school uniform shop which is open during
the summer holidays and weekly in term time at the Mill Road Campus.

Full details of the uniform and games kit are sent to parents of new
entrants during the Summer Term, prior to September entry to the school.

The Uniform shop at MRC is currently open:
