We are proud of Portfields achievements, but we will never become complacent. Life is ever moving on, and therefore we aim to equip our pupils for the ever-changing, technological world in which we live. We wish to do this in positive partnership with parents and carers.

The purpose of the site is to:

Classes work within Year Groups, each one corresponding with the National Curriculum designation. Our primary objective is to ensure that every child within a year group has a similar educational experience; irrespective of the class he or she is in.

Teachers plan co-operatively, encouraging an investigative, problem-solving approach through thematic methods. Teaching methodology is planned and exercised through 1:1, group or whole class teaching. Setting is undertaken as deemed appropriate.

We feel that it is essential to foster a positive relationship among children and adults, and therefore all staff are committed to making school enjoyable, as well as challenging and stimulating.

The vision of the Governors of the Portfields School is:

To give each child the best preparation for life in a changing environment, instilling in them the values for continual learning, tolerance and respect for self and others.

As a Foundation School the Governing Body is its own Admissions Authority.

It is determined that the school will continue to admit children as a single point of entry in the September in the year in which they are five years old. This is in line with Milton Keynes Education Authority policy with whom Portfields will endeavour to work in partnership.

The school does not operate a selection process, and places are available in line with our Equal Opportunities and Social Inclusion policies, and irrespective of where they live.

The official limit for admission to the school is 105 pupils in each year group.

The Reserved Area:

The Poets Estate, odds house numbers of Wolverton Road to Lakes Lane one way, and to the M1 motorway bridge the other way.

In offering places the following criteria will be applied.

•  Pupils living in reserved area

•  Pupils with siblings attending the school at time of admission or eldest child in family.

•  Those who have special reasons for requesting admission to Portfields

•  In the event of greater demand for admission than places available, then children with a Statement of Special Educational Need naming Portfields School have the highest priority, followed by “looked after” children living in the reserved area.

If parents living outside the reserved area wish their child to attend Portfields, they should apply to the school and applications would be considered if places are available.

In the spirit of Portfields' vision, all provision will give equal and equitable opportunity for children and diversity of choice for parents. In the event of over-subscription an Appeals panel will be convened and applications considered accordingly.

We expect all pupils to wear school uniform. Portfields sweatshirts and polo shirts may be purchased from school and other items can be purchased in most main stores. We have orders at various intervals throughout the year for sweatshirts and polo shirts. Gym Bags and brief-case style Reading Folders can also be purchased; these bags are normally in stock and can be obtained from the Office. The school also provides a special bag for carrying items to school as we cannot accommodate back-packs and other sports-type bags.
