Community Education & Recreation at PCC

The College is a centre of Educational and Recreational opportunity for the whole Community, and our aim is to provide for and serve needs within Portslade, the wider City of Brighton and Hove and the surrounding neighbourhood.

The College sees statutory schooling as just one part of a fuller lifelong educational entitlement for each individual.

To try and achieve this aim we organise a varied programme of activities for children and adults including a pre-school playgroup, a full day care nursery, youth work, after school and summer school activities for young people, adult continuing education courses, and sport and leisure opportunities in our Sports Centre.

Equally important is the idea of making the excellent facilities available to, and supporting, individuals, for families and groups who share this interest in education and personal or community development.

We should like everyone to feel that the Community College is ‘our college’ and that we all have a real share in it.

SIXTH FORM

The Sixth Form Centre on the College’s High Street site offers high quality education for the full range of academic and vocational courses. We provide a friendly and hard-working environment organised entirely for the needs of Sixth Form and adult students.

The Centre has a base for each subject, including Science laboratories, as well as social facilities in the Common Room and Hall, organised by the Student Union. There is a superb computer network of 60 PCs, with free internet access, as well as digital photography and video-editing. All students take ICT qualifications.

The Centre teaches up to 200 students. Class sizes are small, twelve on average. Teaching methods are up to date, stimulating and successful and learning is seen as a partnership. Students enjoy many opportunities for showing leadership, and drama, music and sports activities flourish.

RETURNING TO SIXTH FORM

If you are returning to the Sixth Form please telephone Margaret McHugh at the Sixth Form Centre (410711) to arrange a time to register and organize your timetable. Please have your GCSE results beside you when you phone.

You must ring on one of the following days between 9am and 12 noon: Friday 31st August, Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th September. You will be given a time to attend an interview on either Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th or Thursday 6th September.

All students should attend College on Monday 10th September at 8.45am in the hall.

You may be a student hoping to take A levels who has failed to get four GCSEs at A*-C. If so, please ring us to discuss the possibilities: don’t give up on continuing your education. We run two excellent Level 2 vocational courses in Business and in Health and an NVQ in Children’s Care, Learning and Development. These courses last one year and are worth four GCSEs at A*-C.

    Handbook for Parents

Portslade Community SchoolAt Portslade Community College we appreciate how difficult it can be for parents when their child moves on to secondary education. In an effort to ease the transition, we have produced an online ‘Handbook for Parents’.

The ‘Handbook’ is a compilation of responses to questions asked by parents over the years. We hope it will explain clearly the avenues of communication between home and College and the expectations of the College. Click on the links below:
