AIMS

  • To help children develop and extend their potential, both socially and academically.
  • To encourage a sense of social responsibility, having respect for themselves, for others and for their environment.
  • To involve children in an academic programme consistent with National Curriculum guidelines, allowing for individual ability and interests, ensuring that every child receives a broad, balanced curriculum relevant to themselves and the needs of society.
  • To encourage parents to create a partnership with the school, to continue their active involvement in their children's education.

ORGANISATION

Preston typically has 325 children on roll. Each cohort has a planned number (PAN) of 45. The school is organised into 4 units. Unit 1 contains 2 Reception Classes and the Assessment and Diagnostic Support Centre. All the other units (2-4) are organised into 3 parrallel, vertically streamed classes housing approximately 90 children. In practice, this means that classes in Years 1 through to 6 have children from 2 year groups, eg. 15 children from year 1 with 15 from year 2.

A unit leader manages each team. There is a strong team ethos in the school with teachers in each unit planning and assessing work together, sharing expertise and resources.
