Information for Parents

We welcome the involvement of parents throughout their son/daughter’s time with us. Our college is a partnership which certainly includes you and we hope that you will take every opportunity to support us in all that we do here.

Our prime concern is always the well being of our students and the provision of a caring environment which enables them to get the best of themselves. We expect students to accept responsibility for their own learning and progress. However, this will be done in the context of support and encouragement to enable each student to reach their full potential.

College Mission Statement

We aim to be a centre of educational excellence which provides caring and supported learning for those who can benefit from progressing their studies within the welcoming environment of an inclusive Sixth Form College.

The College's Commitment

  • The search for quality in all it does, in order to promote excellence.
  • The maintenance of a caring, friendly environment which is mutually supportive, where student-centred attitudes prevail, and where the welfare and safety of its members are paramount.
  • The encouragement to continue and progress in studying and the fostering of learning throughout life.
  • An inclusive approach to its educational provision which gives opportunities, wherever feasible, to address everyone’s individual needs.
  • Flexibility in its organisation in order to respond to ever-changing contexts, both locally and nationally.
  • Effective and open communication.
  • Efficiency and effectiveness in its use of all its resources in order to secure financial viability and value.

The development of the College’s strategic aims and operational objectives must consider these seven principles at all times.

The Inspectors called .....

A team of Ofsted Inspectors visited the College in October 2005 and they were clearly impressed with what they found.  In every respect the inspectors judged the College's performance to be good - its students' achievements, its resources and its teaching - and overall leadership and management is also good.

The inspectors commented postively on the 'high pass rates at advanced level and improved pass and retention rates on vocational courses, which are above the national averages.'  They found that 'all learners receive good support, help, advice and guidance.  Resources are efficiently managed and the college provides good value for money.  The college has responded well to new initiatives and to the developing needs of the community.'

How to apply

College staff visit many schools in the Autumn Term to speak with Year 11 pupils in detail about the college. Copies of our prospectus are distributed to schools early in the same term.

If you wish to apply, simply complete the online application form or the printed version which can be found at the back of the prospectus and either hand it in at your school or forward it directly to the college. All applicants are invited to an informal interview which will be held at your school whenever possible.

Advice is available at any time from your own teachers or by contacting Student Services at the college. Once you have applied we will keep in touch with you until you enrol with us at the start of September.
