Welcome to Pynes School

We believe that the partnership between school and parents is an essential support for the child. A good home/school relationship encourages confidence and understanding in your child.

By working together we aim to help your child achieve the highest standards, enjoy the experience of school life to the full and move on well prepared for the future.

MISSION STATEMENT

Pynes Infant and Nursery is a welcoming school which provides quality education for children aged between 3 and 7 years, living in the local community.

At Pynes we value excellence of achievement, a happy atmosphere and a close relationship with parents and the local community.

We believe that a stimulating environment together with a relevant curriculum challenges the children at all levels. A high priority is placed on basic learning skills, literacy and numeracy.

Our school is a community in which the individual is valued and where children have the opportunity to achieve their full potential academically, physically, emotionally and socially.

ADMISSIONS

Children enter the Nursery at 4 years of age and enter the school as rising 5’s. We operate a two point entry during the year – in September and January. Children transfer to West Croft Junior School at seven years. The children make specially arranged visits to their intended classes in the term prior to their transfer.

NURSERY

The Nursery Unit offers high quality structured learning for children from 4 years of age. Children attend part time either for a morning session or afternoon session.

Every child is visited at home by a member of Nursery staff before he/she begins. We also encourage a visit to the Nursery in order to meet other parents and their children.

Children are offered the Foundation Stage curriculum which is organised into six areas of learning:

  • personal, social and emotional development;
  • communication, language and literacy;
  • mathematical development;
  • knowledge and understanding of the world;
  • physical development;
  • creative development.

CURRICULUM

It is a statutory requirement for all pupils of compulsory school age to follow the National Curriculum. The core subjects are Maths, English, Science and ICT. The foundation subjects are Geography, History, Art & Design, Design Technology, Music and PE. The curriculum planning and schemes of work are available to view.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Recorder tuition is offered for those children in Year 2 at the start of the academic year. This is explained by letter to parents of children who are interested in learning to play an instrument. This tuition is held at lunchtimes. Parents and carers are welcome to see the Headteacher re. starting an after school activity.
