These rules are displayed in the school for all children. Whole school positive behaviour is based around these rules.
Rewards and Awards
The staff at Rainow Primary School are aware of the impact of value and praise, at least 3 times praise to censure. We recognise that praise gives a boost to self-esteem, it encourages positive behaviour.
School rewards will be given for sensible, appropriate, thoughtful behaviour, effort and achievement.

Individual reward (smiley face, house points, stamps, stickers, stars, etc. etc.)
Leaf award – for outstanding merit, for display on a "Tree of Achievement".

School Prefects
To encourage independence, responsibility and self-esteem, children who have proved themselves able to assist others in positive behaviour will be invited to become school prefects. Prefects will be determined by the Year 6 teacher.
Sanctions
Rewards are the best tools for modifying behaviour. However, consequences are required to teach the limit of school rules.
The Elton Report recommends that:-
"Pupils should learn from experience to expect fair and consistently applied punishments for inappropriate behaviour".
Sanctions must be fair and consistent when children misbehave. Children will choose to accept these consequences if they break the set rules. Staff are reminded that under current legislation they are limited in the sanctions that they can use. However, it may be necessary from time to time to use "reasonable force" in order to ensure the safety of the child or staff or property.
All actions are in ascending order. It is not necessary to "work through" the list.
Mild verbal warning – child is to understand why behaviour is inappropriate
Firm verbal warning with the expectation that the behaviour will not be repeated.
Repeating careless/poor work.
Being asked to carry out a punishment (tables, writing, letter of apology)
Losing free choice session.
Child works/sits alone for specified time
Child excluded from class or group.
Child misses break/playtime
Child is sent to Deputy Headteacher or Headteacher
