| WELCOME!!!
At Ridgeway School we are very proud of our specialist status in Science and Mathematics.
There have already been some exciting changes since we gained the award. All of the science
laboratories and preparation rooms have been refurbished to provide a modern working
environment in which our enthusiastic and experienced teaching staff can provide fantastic
opportunities for our students. Every Maths and Science room has an interactive whiteboard
installed, which will allow students to have full access to learning whatever their preferred
learning style. Student numbers in these subjects have been reduced as a result of Specialist
School funding.
Our focus is always on teaching and learning. We encourage young people to believe in themselves
and what they can achieve. We make every effort to create an atmosphere where students respect
and take responsibility for their own learning; an atmosphere which promotes self-confidence and
independence.
|
| We aim to be a lively, good humoured but well disciplined and
well managed community, open and consultative, visionary and
innovative, but with a real sense of purpose and knowing where
we are going. Our teaching and support staff are committed to
the highest professional standards and are themselves willing to
learn and develop. |
| GCSE and KS3 SATs; subject revision sessions, coursework
support, literacy club and homework clubs form the backbone
of after-school curriculum support. In addition, the Learning
Resources Centre provides a haven for students wishing to
engage in quiet study or complete homework. A number of
subjects also run clubs to take their subjects beyond what is
taught in the classroom. |
| Life at Ridgeway School is so much more than just the curriculum subjects. The many and varied
extra-curricular opportunities on offer encourage individual and team participation as well as high
personal aspiration. We recognise the lasting value of extra-curricular experiences. We, therefore,
provide a rich and diverse range of activities enabling all our students to have the opportunity to
develop their interests and talents beyond the classroom. Central to this is Period 6, voluntary time
set aside at the conclusion of the school day to ensure students have the opportunity to broaden
their skills and experiences, thus helping them to develop as young adults. |
