Ryhill Junior Infant & Nursery School
Chapel Street, Wakefield,WF4 2AD
01226 722530

Ryhill School first opened in April 1913 and is the oldest school in the three villages

The School

The school was built in the early years of the last century and first opened on 8th April 1913. It consists of 6 classrooms, a Nursery, a Resource/Conference Hall, ICT suite, library, cloakrooms and stores. An extension was built in 1996 to add a new Main Hall (used for assemblies, PE and dining), offices, staff room, changing rooms, kitchen and reception/admin. The school has its own enclosed playing field, nature/pond area, two playgrounds, substantial car parking and a large Nursery play area. There is disabled access at all points and the whole school is on one level. The site is fully enclosed and security restricts public access to the school to the main entrance which is controlled by a remote access entry system. All doors used by pupils at the start/end of the day and during break times are monitored by members of staff.

To enable our security procedures to be as effective as possible parents and visitors are requested not to enter school at pupil access points, all non staff access being directed to the main entrance.

Our Mission Statement

'At the Heart of every School there is a Child'

'We try to make a happy school where everyone is welcome.'

'We believe everyone within our school is an equally important individual and respect their individuality.'

'We try to encourage all our children to become independent, caring and responsible by providing learning experiences and opportunities which promote these ideals.'

'We hope that every child will have a happy, secure and rewarding experience during their first years of school life.'

The aim of Ryhill Junior, Infant & Nursery School is to extend the children's knowledge of themselves and the world they live in, and through greater knowledge to develop skills and concepts to help them relate to others and to encourage a proper self confidence.

Our school is concerned with each pupils essential individuality and catering for their physical, mental and spiritual growth, attitudes and relationships, character and personality , membership of a group within school and their place within the local community. The high expectations of teaching staff ensure the fullest opportunities are available to every child to enable them to achieve their true potential in all aspects of their life.
