Mission Statement

"For each of us to do our job to the best of our ability, supporting one another in providing a quality education where everyone can succeed and improve his/her personal best. A love of learning is our priority. We believe in developing Christian, confident and responsible citizens who will contribute to and lead society in the 21st Century".

Sacred Heart College is very much a college for the future. We aim to offer a high quality, exciting, challenging, relevant and Catholic education for students of all abilities. We believe that every student can achieve success and we have expectations of everyone in our learning community. We have a strong commitment to the value of a broad and balanced curriculum, allied to a belief in the need for personal responsibility As well as demanding academic success, we expect students to play a full role as responsible citizens within the local area. Sacred Heart College prides itself on being outward looking and from all Year groups we look for and receive:

  • a commitment to community action
  • support for local and national charities
  • an active participation in artistic, cultural and sport opportunities
  • leadership in many different events and activities each year

Our principal aim is to develop the potential of every student at Sacred Heart College. We do this by providing a supportive environment which will stimulate and encourage students to be independent and committed learners for life. We place high priority on the traditional qualities of hard work, discipline, courtesy and consideration for others. We believe in combining approaches which have stood the test of time with the best modern teaching strategies and resources.

College Aims

"For each of us to do our job to the best of our ability, supporting one another in providing a quality education where everyone can succeed and improve his/her personal best. A love of learning is our priority. We believe in developing Christian, confident and responsible citizens who will contribute to and lead society in the 21st Century"

Sacred Heart College is an all ability college which seeks to serve the whole community of Omagh by providing a first class education service to young people from 11 - 18 years of age

We believe in a fully comprehensive system of education where young people of all ability levels can be educated together. We believe that the college is in a position to offer every child, regardless of ability, an all-encompassing education.

Each child is important. Each has many different talents and we would encourage individuals to develop their own personal skills and attitudes. We want to be a good school, like all schools, it is our primary aim to create a positive learning environment. The Mission statement above attempts to summarise the philosophy of our school clearly and concisely.

It is our desire to impart knowledge and offer worthwhile experiences to our pupils which will help each develop into a responsible member of society. To this end we recognise that each child is entitled to an appropriate quality education which is relevant to the world in which we live.

Introduction

We believe that involvement in activities outside normal classwork can contribute to personal development and attitude to learning. The range of activities provide normally includes:

  • School Chiors
  • Public Speaking
  • Art Club
  • Netball
  • School Performanaces
  • Badminton
  • Hurling
  • Gaelic Football
  • Charities
  • Young Enterprise
  • Summer School
  • Basketball
  • IT Club
  • Soccer
  • Outdoor pursuits
  • Traditional Group
  • Presidents Award

These activities require commitment from the boys and girls who remain after school and often from parents who may have to collect them! We believe that the activities are not just educational but that the commitment required is character building

Pupils Council

A council is elected annually by pupils. The members represent all pupils in the College. The Council elects its own secretary and Chairperson and discusses issues of importance to pupils, making their views known through recommendations and reports to the Principal. In this way children are encouraged to become more involved in the decision making process of the College.
