Welcome to Salisbury Road Junior School

The building was refurbished during 1991/1992, this enhanced the school environment and provided us with up to date equipment in all classrooms. The playground environment has also had the advantage of being upgraded and, with the help of the local community, children and staff, we are in the process of improving it still further. The children with the help of the Plymouth Groundwork Trust developed a wildlife area.

At Salisbury Road Junior School we promote the development of the whole child and place great emphasis on social and emotional development as well as the curricular opportunities we provide. We see Salisbury Road Junior School as a friendly and caring community, in which parents and visitors are encouraged to help and participate in a variety of ways.

  • be kind, friendly and polite at all times
  • do as they are asked, by all the staff
  • speak and listen at the correct times
  • treat each other's and the school's property with respect
  • try their best at work and at play

In setting forth these aims, we are aware that they can only be achieved within the framework of specific teaching of knowledge and skills. We attach a great deal of importance to the teaching of basic subjects, but realise that learning and understanding, is best achieved through offering a wider programme of work. We have adopted the Plymouth Education Authority Curriculum Statement and a copy of this is displayed in the school reception. The National Curriculum has been introduced in English, Maths, Science, ICT, RE, Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art and Physical Education

All National Curriculum subjects provide opportunities to promote pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Explicit opportunities to promote pupil's development in these areas are provided in RE and the non-statutory framework for PSHE and Citizenship. A significant contribution is also made by school ethos, effective relationships throughout school, collective worship and other curriculum activities.

It must be emphasised that school clubs can only take place out of school hours with the goodwill of the staff concerned. Many clubs are organised after school hours or during the lunchtime. Due to large numbers it is sometimes necessary to restrict clubs to particular year groups. Clubs may include:

Music Choir Netball Aerobics Football Athletics Drama Art Dance IT

Different clubs take place at different times of the year.
