At Salway Ash school we care for our children by providing the best possible quality of learning within a secure and happy environment , where the ef forts and achievements of everyone are valued.

We are commit ted to developing each child’s full potent ial through academic success, musical and creat ive opportunit ies and sport ing endeavour.

As an important part of the community, the school is known for its family atmosphere, Christ ian ethos and moral values.

Our children will be recognized as being happy, conf ident and caring.

Throughout the year work is planned by teachers to cover all curriculum subjects in order to give as broad a base as possible. Some subjects follow a two year rolling programme to avoid duplicat ion and throughout the year a lot of interest ing and excit ing work is produced by the children in following these programmes of study.

The core subjects of numeracy and literacy are taught on a daily basis throughout the school year.

Science, religious educat ion, ICT, PE, and music are taught weekly. Some foundat ion subjects, such as geography, history, art , design and technology may be ‘blocked’ into half term units of study.

According to statutory requirements, children are formally tested (SATs) towards the end of

Year 6 and formally assessed towards the end of Year 2 — for English, mathemat ics and science. We also test children in Years 3, 4 and 5 during the summer term, although this is not a legal requirement .

The school has a well- stocked library situated in a quiet and comfortable part of the building. Children throughout the school are given opportunit ies to select and return their books and to use the library as a research resource.
