ECO-SCHOOL

At Sheldwich we are very proud of our Eco-School Status.
On this page you can see some of the activites that we are doing
to protect our planet and keep people "Thinking Green".

To continue to raise the awareness of our energy consumption within the school.
To reduce energy consumption within the school.
To establish links to other schools both in our own locality and globally.
To ensure that all Eco School information and news is placed on the school web site.

That the average bin consists of: 33% paper or card, 30% organic waste, 10% cans and metals, 10% glass, 7% plastics, 4% textiles & 6% misc other waste

On average, every household throws away around 1 tonne of rubbish every year- of which about a quarter is packaging waste.

On average, every person in the UK uses 134 plastic carrier bags a year… each one can take up to 500 years to decay in a landfill site.

Experts now estimate that within 9 years, all of our landfill sites will be full.

Each of our Classes from Years 2 to 6 take part in our "Green Team".
They keep our school site clean and collect rubbish to be recycled

Summer term ’07:
Sendmyfriend.org campaign. A project which aims to give every child in the world a chance to go to school by 2015.
World Environment day June 5th.

Autumn term ’07:
Clearing and work in New House cherry orchard,
Planting trees in Victory wood, Starfish Malawi project,
Stationery sale to raise money for Suchana project, West Bengal, India.

As part of our Eco-Schools project, we try our hardest to
reduce, reuse, repair and recycle
all sorts of things. Here is a list of some of the things that we recycle:
Toners and cartridges/Stamps/Mobile phones/Silver paper and foil/Paper/ Spectacles

As well as bringing recycling into school,
recycling centres for cans, bottles, clothes and paper products are a
great and easy way to help maintain our environment.
