Message from Mrs Dack:
We endeavour to take the best of the proven traditional teaching methods and mix these with the best of the modern ideas to provide a stimulating and productive education. We encourage high standards within the broad curriculum. English, Mathematics, Science, French, Art and Sport are taught by teachers specialising in these subjects. History and Geography, PHSE and RE are also part of our timetabled day.
Our results speak for themselves; a significant porportion of our children reach Grammar or Public School due to strong English and Mathematics teaching throughout the school with dedicated staff.
Above all, we aim to give our pupils confidence in their ability, confidence in their appearance, confidence to work individually or as part of a team, and confidence to meet the challenges ahead.

Shernold was founded in 1935 and although it has expanded over the years, has kept sight of its original aims to create a happy, positive environment in which children flourish.
The school has 8 classes (2 within the Kindergarten Unit) and children are grouped according to the class placement policy. The school's planned admission limit is 20. The number of children on the roll is 160. With small class sizes and highly qualified, experienced, and committed staff, we can provide the best education for our pupils. We particularly extend those gifted and talented children. We believe that each child must be given the opportunity to succeed, in whatever field, and we encourage self-respect, self-awareness and a feeling of community spirit within the school.
Shernold has an excellent range of facilities, including an art room, music room, computer room and a well-stocked liabrary. The main building is a substantial mid-Victorian house, full of character yet well equipped, and with a warm welcoming atmosphere. Physical Education and games are well catered for, with a swimming pool, netball/tennis court, seven aside football, gym equipment and ample playing space for hockey, cricket, football and rounders. With a thriving young orchestra and choir, music and drama contributes much to the life of Shernold School. We offer lessons from highly qualified teachers in all areas, concentrating on piano, strings and woodwind. After school clubs include Drama, Science, Orchestra, Modern Dance, Ballet, Tap, Recorder and Football/Sports.
The school runs a supervised pre class from 3.15pm - 5.00pm every afternoon and additional supervision from 8.30am - 8.50am. |
