Welcome to the Sidbury C of E Primary School

Sidbury Primary School is a voluntary controlled Church of England Primary School, admitting children from the ages of 4 to 11 years. Our catchment area includes the villages of Sidbury and Sidford, but we also take children from the surrounding area when spaces are available.

Our staff and Governors work enthusiastically to provide a learning experience for the children in our care, which is second to none.

The aim of Sidbury Church of England Primary School is to provide a stimulating, purposeful environment for children, staff and parents, which will allow everyone to develop to their full potential academically, socially and spiritually, in a caring Christian atmosphere.

Core Subjects English, Mathematics, Science and Information and Communication Technology.

Foundation Subjects History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education.

The curriculum throughout the school is carefully planned and structured from the National Curriculum Programmes of Study, with particular emphasis being placed on teaching the skills of literacy and numeracy. We make every effort to offer the children a full and rewarding school life by extending their knowledge and understanding of themselves and of the world in which they live. In addition to the subjects listed overleaf, the cross-curricular themes of Health Education, Citizenship, Environmental Education and Personal & Social Education are taught.

Our strategies of classroom management and organisation encourage the development of the children as independent learners.

If children wish to learn a musical instrument, we can arrange for tuition from a qualified teacher. This service is provided through the Music Foundation for Schools, who charge a termly tuition fee that varies according to the size of the group taught. It is possible to have individual tuition, but this is obviously more expensive. We try to arrange the weekly music lessons so as not to interrupt normal school lessons, this may be before the beginning of school, or when other children are attending assembly. Music Foundation for Schools will also hire instruments to children who are receiving tuition.
