Sidmouth Infants` School

Sidmouth Infants Community School is situated in the corner of Manstone Estate. It has recently undergone extensive modernisation, with two new classrooms and toilets, provision for disabled children and adults and an extended outdoor environmental area and pond.

It is our vision that this school will always be a home for learning, caring and sharing, where every individual will be expected to do their best and in return will be valued for their achievements and for themselves.

The main school building dates from 1939. It has two classrooms for Reception and Year 1 children and a school hall, fitted with infant PE apparatus and with space for school lunches, PE, assemblies and other meetings and performances. Apple Tree Pre-School occupies a third classroom. The west end of the main building has recently been refurbished to provide a work room, storage area and new children and adult toilets.

AIMS

  • To provide a caring family atmosphere;
  • To provide opportunities for children to gain confidence and self esteem in order to move towards greater independence and self discipline;
  • To provide a community of adults who genuinely care about the welfare, safety and happiness of young children;
  • To provide positive links between home and school;
  • To provide a stimulating environment which nurtures their natural curiosity;
  • To provide a safe environment;
  • To provide the National Curriculum at Key Stage 1;
  • To teach to the Early Learning Goals at the foundation stage of the curriculum;
  • To provide a strong focus on literacy and numeracy whilst providing a breadth and balance in all other areas;
  • To provide a differentiated programme which caters for individual needs;
  • To provide a smooth transition between pre-school, this school and the next.

PRE-SCHOOL PROVISION

Apple Tree Pre-School is an independent provider based at Sidmouth Infants' School. Children in our care are aged 3 and 4 years.

The children in our care are aged between four and seven. They begin school part-time in the Over 4's group and attend full-time either in September or January, depending on their birth date, and leave to continue their education in local junior schools. The Over 4's group has been functioning since 1991. Our aim in introducing this group was to enable children and parents to make an early start preparing for school life and all that it entails. We believe that we have been successful.
