Welcome to Silchester Manor School

Dear Parents and Carers

My name is David Hopkins and I am the Principal at The Silchester Manor School.

Everyone at Silchester School works hard to create a happy and caring atmosphere. We are very proud of our children. They are polite, well behaved and encouraged to give their very best. Our aim is for children to leave school as confident individuals who have been given the best possible start on the path to learning throughout life.

Our children are taught in small groups where they are provided with excellent teaching and where there are opportunities for every child to be challenged and extended. We offer a wide range of activities, including a residential French trip and visit to Carroty Wood in Tonbridge, Kent. We are open 51 weeks of the year and offer an extended day and a very popular holiday club.

We are delighted to be part of the CfBT Group of schools. CfBT is a leading charity providing educational services for public benefit in the UK and internationally. Established 40 years ago CfBT now has an annual turnover exceeding £100 million and employs more than 2000 staff worldwide. CfBT currently own and manage seven schools and nine nurseries.

Our website can only give you a flavour of life at our school, we invite you to come and experience the friendly atmosphere first hand and see for yourself what Silchester Manor could offer your child.

Please contact us to arrange an appointment.

Mission Statement

CfBT Education Trust’s schools provide an excellent education for all their pupils. Individual learning, tailored to the abilities and needs of each child, is at the heart of what they provide.

Pupils engage in activities that foster confidence and self-esteem and they develop a sense of curiosity about the world around them. They are encouraged to take pride in their work, to achieve high standards and to learn to work well both collaboratively and independently.

First class headteachers and high calibre, committed staff deliver a rich and stimulating curriculum that gives children a lifelong love of learning. Individual teachers make time to get to know their pupils, helping them to realise their full potential.

CfBT schools treat parents as key partners, making time to involve them in their child’s progress, talking to them about issues like homework, attendance, behaviour and keeping them well informed through regular reports and events.

The schools believe strongly in the traditional values of courtesy and respect for others. Good behaviour is expected at all times and there are clear rules about upholding this.

CfBT is an organisation committed to providing education for public benefit worldwide and is investing in its schools long term to ensure that they keep pace with the rapidly changing world of education and continue to provide a first class experience for all the pupils who attend them.

Our school is based on Christian principles with all children taking part both in our acts of worship and in Christian education classes. The school’s motto, ‘non progredi est regredi’, means ‘not to go forward is to go backwards’. It is our aim that all children at our school will be motivated, enquiring and enthusiastic to learn and achieve.

Our school policies cover the areas of equal opportunities, anti-racism, positive behaviour and inclusion. All new parents receive details of these policies in their welcome pack. If you would like specific information about these please contact us.

Our School

Silchester Manor School has a reputation for having the care of every child as its main priority.  The school’s stimulating environment means that each child has the opportunity to raise their self-confidence and develop a passion for learning.

We teach a broad and balanced curriculum to over 145 boys and girls aged three months to 11 years and we are registered to provide extended day care for children, from 7.45am to 6pm for 51 weeks of the year.

Please browse through our website for more information about the school or alternatively call us on 01628 778890.

We believe that stimulating the brain brings great benefits to a child’s academic studies. Every new skill a child learns, every new and interesting thing they see or do, develops the brain’s power to work and function more quickly and discriminate more finely.

We therefore adopt a multi-sensory approach to learning, where all the senses are fully engaged; lessons involve seeing, hearing and doing, and we ensure that each lesson is planned to incorporate all three styles.

We do not concentrate only on the here and now – how quickly a child can rush through a reading scheme, for example. To prepare the citizens of tomorrow we must consider the world our children will live in. It is essential that we build into our education programme opportunities to develop the intelligences and skills they will need.

At Silchester Manor School we therefore do not follow a conventional school timetable: it would be impossible to fit in all that we need. Instead we devote our mornings primarily to mathematics and English studies and our afternoons to more practical lessons, with information and communication technology used as a tool in every subject. We supplement this with a wide range of before-school and after-school clubs so that children with a particular interest or talent can take their pursuits to a much higher level. We offer modern languages, sport, music and art clubs. Every child can enjoy a very full and active day every day.

All main areas of learning follow the National Curriculum guidelines.

We believe it is our role to enable pupils to develop the confidence, tenacity and skills they will need to achieve the qualifications and enter the professions they aspire to in later life.

Future employers will face many candidates with similar qualifications, and we aim for an education that will set our children apart. A child who has learned a musical instrument to a high standard or swum in national competitions has displayed self-discipline, commitment to excellence and dedication that an employer can value.
