Word From Barbara Hoggarth

I came to Skirlaugh C.E. Primary School in January 2000. What a wonderful start to the Millennium! I had always taught in Hull so it was a change of LEA as well as school. Within a short time I was in charge of a Year 5 class as well as all the commitments a new Head has. Since then I have taken two Year 6 classes. This year I am releasing staff for outreach work, for PPA time, Management time and to access professional development.
The LEA, Staff, Governors, Church, PTFA, parents and children have helped to make several improvements to the site. We have new windows and doors. The foyer and several classrooms have been carpeted. The quadrangle is a super area now money has been spent on it. We have a medical room/disabled toilet, ramps and rails to the playground. We have an Adventure Playground on our field with a slide, climbing frame, balancing logs, tyres and picnic bench. Our nursery school has had a climbing frame installed which has a slide, house and tunnel. The PTFA raised £2500 for this from the Summer Gala and BP gave us a charity donation of £500 to fund the rest of this.
We have several awards - the Healthy Schools Award, Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark 2 and School Achievement for 2002 and 2003.
Skirlaugh is a great place to work. Everyone is so hard working and loyal. The children are so fortunate in having such committed people working for them. You are welcome to come along and see our wonderful school.
